And when it has passed, Persephone returns to her mother, bringing with her a new spring. This legend contains the whole life of the earth, its bloom and withering, the pain and joy of a mother, because the earth is the “mother” (…). So Demeter was the goddess of life, like Persephone again the goddess of death.
